He began training at age five in Minsk, Belarus.
Reason for taking up the sport
His mother wanted to enrol him at a football club, which was located near a gymnastics hall. She did not know where to go and by mistake entered the gymnastics hall where she met coach Vitaly Rybaltovsky. "At first, we were offered to jump on a trampoline, and I liked it. Later, the trampoline was replaced by other exercises."
