Reason for taking up the sport
She first tried swimming as a young girl, but then decided she wanted to try something else. She first wanted to play volleyball but her mother advised her to try artistic gymnastics. "I chose gymnastics because I always liked to do cartwheels and jumps as a child." Short after she switched to trampolining. "We had a trampoline in the side of the gym and I would want to stay the whole hour there. Later that year, I got invited to try the trampoline competitor team! Ever since then, I've been involved with trampoline. The feeling of flying I got from when I was a little kid stills makes my heart beat fast, I love what I do!" SANCTION
She received a 37-day suspension by the International Gymnastics Federation [FIG] after returning an adverse analytical finding for the banned substance canrenone, a diuretic, in a sample provided during the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. Before the championships she had begun a medical treatment which contained the diuretic without FIG's authorisation. The suspension ran from 30 November 2019 until 06 January 2020 but she was considered ineligible to compete until 17 August 2020 as she had to continue with her treatment. All her results from late November 2019 until July 2020 were annulled. (olimpiadatododia.com.br, 26 Aug 2020; insidethegames.biz, 26 Aug 2020)
MOVING TO THE UNITED STATES
In 2014 she decided to move to the United States of America in order to stay three months for training. She contacted US trampolinist Jeffrey Gluckstein who knew Russian coach Tatiana Kovaleva. "I wanted to go there and they received me with open arms." During her stint she got closer to Jeffrey's brother, Steve with whom she began a relationship and eventually they got married. "As our relationship was growing so did my improvement on the trampoline. So I decided to stay permanently." (cob.org.br, 16 Oct 2020)
FEAR OF HEIGHTS
Despite performing jumps over six metres high, she says she is afraid of heights. "I have had fear of heights since I was a child. I do not dare to look down from a tall building. While on an airplane I close the window. But in the trampoline I feel like I am flying. As I have been practising it since I was a child I do not feel that I am jumping that high."
