Speaking in October 2020 he said he had been training domestically in Havana, Cuba, due to the COVID-19 pandemic for almost a full year. "I am still in quarantine, and I keep exercising here at home so as not to lose my shape and to keep my mental state well. With respect to the time I have been out of the gym [for competitions], I have almost reached a year."
