MOTIVATION
She missed out on selection for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after the Colombian federation decided she had to contend for a berth against Catalina Escobar, who eventually secured the nomination. "It was hard at the time, but I got over it. We all have our moments. Those are tasks that life puts in front of you and make you stronger." (elcolombiano.com, 14 Sep 2017)
PSYCHOLOGIST
She combines her sporting career with her profession as a sports psychologist. She works with young athletes from different sports and says her experience as a gymnast has helped her to provide better insight and support for her clients. "It's a little bit complex because every sport is a different world. So every time I start with new athletes I try to study more about their specific sport to understand what they need. It's a beautiful challenge because I never practised another sport other than gymnastics and now I have to learn about all of them. It [her gymnastics career] also helps you to be more empathetic with the athlete. You learn that gymnastics is a tough sport but the others also have their own complexity, as well as frustrations and specific injuries. That's why it's important to learn about them all. I want to help them, from my experience as an athlete, to achieve their dreams just the same way I had my own psychologists." (elcolombiano.com, 08 May 2023)
