Teresa Oliva Perez, a former member of the International Gymnastics Federation’s (FIG) Women’s Technical Committee and FIG Honorary Member since 2000, passed away on June 17 in her hometown of Havana (CUB) at age 76.

From 1967 to 1978, she coached the successful Cuban women’s national team, which participated at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. The team won gold at the Central American Games in 1970 and 1974. In her career as a judge, Oliva Perez officiated at numerous international competitions, including the Olympics, World Championships, World Cups and Pan American Games.
Working for the development of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics in her country and on the Pan American continent, Oliva Perez served as Director of the Women’s Technical Committee of the Cuban Gymnastics Federation and as President of the Pan American Gymnastics Union’s (PAGU) TC.
A mother of three, Teresa Oliva Perez, was known affectionately as “La Profe Teresa,” and loved and respected for her strict discipline and professional ethics. With her passing, Gymnastics loses one of its role models.
