"All I knew was that I wanted to go to the Olympics and that ambition owed in part to watching Canadian rower Silken Laumann excel at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona." General
MATERNITY LEAVE
She took 14 months out of the sport to give birth to her daughter Emilie in 2013. "Nothing was easy. After 14 months off for the birth of my daughter there was a lot of work to get back in shape and regain my strength and my skills. I love my sport so I really enjoyed training again and being with my teammates. It was a tough year back but I was back competing at an elite level by the 2014 World Championships in Daytona Beach." She has faced the challenges of being an athlete and mother head on, "It is challenging but worth it for every mother to get healthy and strong again. It is hard to be a mum and an elite athlete. It is a challenge to train with the lack of sleep and all the energy it takes to do both. There are a few trampolinists who are mums and I have so much respect for them, because I know how hard it is. Sport is for everyone, mums included, so it is great to set that example and change the perception of who can be an elite female athlete." (fig-gymnastics.com, 27 Nov 2015)
