Injuries
Starting in October 2012, she suffered from a series of lower back injuries for two and a half years. She has been diagnosed with a variety of conditions, including herniated discs and arthritis. (usagym.org, 11 May 2015)
Start sporting career
She took up gymnastics in 2002 at age six after her mother saw an advertisement in a newspaper. (usagym.org, 28 Sep 2014; fulltwist.net, 18 Aug 2014; beatricevivaldi.com, 24 Aug 2010)
Reason for taking up the sport
"When I was young, when I started out in gymnastics, I was also doing dance. I had a competition in both dance and gymnastics on the same day so my mum sat me down and said, 'Listen, you're going to have to choose one sport'. I was doing dance for four years and gymnastics for less than a year, and I still chose gymnastics. I was seven. I felt something about the sport." (usagym.org, 11 May 2015)
Most memorable sporting achievement
Winning a silver medal in ball at the 2011 World Cup event in Pesaro, Italy, and qualifying for the all-around final at the 2013 World Championships in Kiev, Ukraine. (fulltwist.net, 18 Aug 2014)

General
RETIREMENT
She retired from the sport in April 2015 due to an ongoing back complaint. "Unfortunately, I don't feel I've reached my prime, but I knew it was my time to retire. Finding out before the 2015 season that I wasn't going to be able to compete, my world was shattered, but I had to realise that there is so much more I can do. That goal [competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro] would be only six minutes of my life, and I don't want to suffer my entire life." (usagym.org, 11 May 2015)
