Additional information
GOLDEN REDEMPTION
After missing out on the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, he considered quitting the sport. However, he went on to win gold on floor exercise at the 2021 World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan, several months later. "The men's team did not qualify [for the 2020 Games] and, due to a series of quibbles in the selection for individual places, I found out only a week before I was due to leave for Tokyo that there was no place for me. I thought about quitting, I took it badly. I returned to Sardinia to detox from gymnastics and spend a month by the sea with my family and friends. But then I told myself, 'Why should I throw it all away?' The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are just around the corner. And then I got sweet revenge [by winning world championship gold]."
