Sporting relatives
His twin brother Francisco has represented Portugal in trampolining, claiming silver in the team event at the 2016 European Championships in Valladolid, Spain. (SportsDeskOnline, 17 Oct 2018; jpn.up.pt, 01 May 2018)
Start sporting career
He took up trampoline gymnastics at age five in Vila do Conde, Portugal.
Reason for taking up the sport
He followed his siblings into the sport, although he initially combined it with playing football. Then, at age 14 he decided to focus solely on trampoline. "My father asked me if I wanted just to be one more [person] in football or the best of everybody in trampolining."
Trainings
He trains for five hours day.
Philosophy / Motto
"It's such a fast sport, we have around 10 seconds to decide certain things. The psychological thing is what makes the difference between the good ones and the bad ones. To be a good athlete training is not enough. There are other factors that are behind a result. Working with a psychologist made me realise that 60% is training and 40% is psychology." Awards
In 2018 he received the Sports Merit Medal from the municipality of Vila do Conde in Portugal. (cm-viladoconde.pt, 08 Jun 2018)
Additional information
FURTHER EDUCATION
He has studied for a master's degree in business finance at the Superior Institute of Accounting and Administration of Porto [ISCAP] in Portugal. (jpn.up.pt, 01 May 2018; agora.ismai.pt, 07 Dec 2017)
FUTURE PLANS
In December 2017 he said he planned to continue in the sport for two more years. "After finishing my master's degree I have to start working and from then on I cannot continue with trampolining the same way I can now. I'll do my living from my studies because living from sports in Portugal, without being a footballer, is completely impossible." (agora.ismai.pt, 07 Dec 2017; jpn.up.pt, 01 May 2018)
