Injuries
She tore the anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in her right knee at the Israeli championships in August 2019. She underwent surgery and returned to competition at the 2021 European Championships in Basel, Switzerland. It was her third torn ACL, after she previously sustained the same injury in her left knee twice and needed surgery on both occasions. The first time the injury occurred was in 2014 during training, and the second time was at the 2015 European Championships in Montpellier, France. Additional information
OVERCOMING INJURY
Having suffered three anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] injuries between 2014 and 2019, she returned to competition in April 2021. She went on to place sixth in vault at the 2021 World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan. "The year 2021 was a long mental rehabilitation process for me. Actually, the first step in dealing with returning to competitions was the [2021] European Championships in Basel, where I showed myself that I was capable of becoming a gymnast again. Then I set bigger goals for myself. Sixth place in the vault final of the world championships was for me the proof that despite all the injuries, I'm a gymnast at the highest levels in the world. I think the results I have achieved this year [2021] and the results I will achieve in the future are much more significant [than previous results] because they come after a long struggle with injuries, surgeries and long rehabilitations." LOSS OF COACH, MALLORCA MOVE
In 2018 the coach she had trained with since age 14, Boris Kinev, died of cancer. She then relocated to Palma de Mallorca, Spain, in January 2019, and began working with coach Pedro Mir Homar. "We [she and Kinev] had a very strong bond. Our last competition was the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow. When he couldn't come to training, I went to visit him. It was tough. Before he passed away, I told him that I had scheduled a week of a trial run to train with a Spanish coach. He [Kinev] told me it was the right step and supported me. A week after he died, I flew to Spain. After the trial week, I left everything and moved to live in Palma de Mallorca. I met Pedro Mir there who became my coach and since then, I've made the most progress in my career." (intlgymnast.com, 12 Feb 2022; LinkedIn profile, 20 Mar 2022; gymnovosti.com, 08 Sep 2019)
