His mother Jane Bower [nee Clemons] competed in gymnastics for the University of Nebraska and was the 1990 Big 8 conference all-around champion. His younger sister Allison has reached the highest level [10] in the USA Gymnastics Junior Program, while his younger brother Alex has also competed in the sport at elite junior level.
