Additional information
INJURY BREAK
After a number of years competing with a shoulder issue, he finally underwent surgery on the problem in September 2021. He spent almost two years away from international competition before returning at the 2023 European Championships in Antalya, Turkiye. "It was of course a difficult year [2022], one has to be honest. I didn't recover as quickly as I had hoped. And I kept having a few setbacks, so it was just a stupid year. But things turned out for the best and I was able to prepare properly [in 2023]. [Retiring] wasn't an option for me. Sure, on bad days you sometimes think about why you're doing all this. But now I would say, absolutely not. I'm still far too young for that and there's still far too much to do. I haven't achieved my big goal of the Olympics yet and therefore I can't retire from gymnastics in peace."
