HIATUS
In 2021, after competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, she decided to take some time away from the sport. From late 2021 through 2022 she focused on her astrophysics studies at the University of California Santa Cruz before announcing her return to the sport in February 2023. "There was a constant whisper deep in my soul that I had more to give and another journey to embark on. I have had an amazing year studying astrophysics. Although it has been an incredible year, deep down I was still feeling a passion and inspiration for gymnastics. My body is still young and healthy and I wanted to see what more I could bring to Team USA. In September [2022] I began training myself just to see how I felt. Once I started I knew I wanted to do this." (Instagram profile, 19 Feb 2023)
