In April 2021 he injured his shoulder at the European championships in Basel, Switzerland. In December 2021 the injury was diagnosed as a fissure in the supraspinatus tendon in his shoulder. He says a painful fall on high bar in Forbach, France, where he started training, continues to affect him although he realises that potentially dangerous mistakes are part of the sport.
