She took up rhythmic gymnastics at age four at the Elite Sports Complex in Woodridge, IL, United States of America.

Her mother took Gergana and her older sister Viara to a gym that had separate areas for rhythmic gymnastics and artistic gymnastics. She then gave the sisters the choice of which discipline they wanted to do. "I wanted to be an artistic gymnast because I thought how they flip and do all of these things [was] really cool, but my sister was leaning towards rhythmic gymnastics, so of course my mom went with her decision. My sister kind of pulled me with her."

"It's a lot of pressure but I have very good mental stability so I go out and perform to the best of my ability. That's what keeps me going, because I love performing in general.
