FAILED APPEAL
She appealed her final score in the hoop portion of her all-around event at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, ON, Canada, with hopes of improving her score. However, judges decided to lower her score following the appeal. The loss of points ultimately cost her the bronze medal in the all-around competition, but she did win bronze in the individual hoop event. (folhavitoria.com.br, 18 Jul 2015)
ADMINISTRATIVE ERROR
She competed in only two of the four apparatus at the 2014 World Championships in Izmir, Turkey, due to an administrative error by the Brazilian Gymnastics Committee [CBG], who failed to realise that there were no more vacancies available for the ribbon and clubs events. The error meant she was unable to compete in the all-around competition. (esportes.estadao.com.br, 25 Sep 2014)
LATE BLOOMER
She took up gymnastics at age eight, later than most gymnasts. To make up for it, she trained for longer periods of time. "I was really bad, but I didn't let others make something that I couldn't make. I always wanted to do what the older girls did in training. I wanted to learn new things all the time and I would annoy the older gymnasts until they taught me." (caixa.gov.br, 20 Nov 2015)
