The FIG Safeguarding Resource Center serves as a comprehensive hub, bringing together a wide range of safeguarding-related materials, including documents, posters, webinar recordings. It is designed as a go-to reference point for National Federations as they advance their safeguarding journey.
Structured around the six phases of the Safeguarding Journey - Assessment & Commitment; Policy Development; Capacity Building; Implementation; Monitoring & Evaluation; and Sustainability & Evolution - the center provides guidance and tools to support organizations at every stage of their progress.
In addition to FIG’s own resources, the center comprises valuable contributions from NFs, the IOC, other International Federations, and even broader initiatives beyond sport, offering practical insights and best practices.
To complement these materials, NFs and their members are encouraged to explore the FIG Safeguarding Channel, where a dedicated Safeguarding Course is available to deepen understanding and strengthen implementation efforts.
This initial phase focuses on understanding your organization’s current safeguarding environment, identifying risks, and committing to creating a safe culture. Leadership endorsement and a clear public commitment are essential at this stage.
Once the commitment is made, the next step is to design and adopt safeguarding policies that set clear standards of behavior, reporting mechanisms, and protective measures for athletes and participants.

Safeguarding policies are only effective when people have the knowledge and skills to apply them. This phase emphasizes training staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities in safeguarding.
At this stage, safeguarding measures and policies are put into practice across the organization. This includes establishing reporting procedures, ensuring safe recruitment, and integrating safeguarding into daily activities and decision-making.

To ensure progress and accountability, organizations must regularly review their safeguarding systems. This involves tracking compliance, gathering feedback, and making improvements where gaps are identified.
